On 6th March, an Italian national presenting with #COVID19 symptoms has been identified from V.Thinadhoo. This individual is now in Farukolhufushi, a designated isolation centre, for monitoring and testing.
In addition, also on 6 March, another Italian tourist, who recently holidayed in Kuredu Island Resort & Spa in Lhaviyani Atoll, informed been tested positive for COVID-19 upon return to Italy. Authorities are in contact with the Italian national and the resort’s management to confirm the results of the test and to carry out contact tracing.
On 7th March two French nationals, who developed symptoms of #COVID-19, while on holiday in Summer Island Resort, are being transferred to Farukolhufushi for further monitoring and testing.
Further to these developments and as an additional safeguard, V. Thinadhoo, Lh. Kuredu Island Resort & Spa and K. Summer Island Resort have been put under temporary restrictive measures to carry out contact tracing.
Moreover, passengers originating from and transiting through Italy or have a 14 day travel history that includes Italy will not be permitted entry into the Maldives from 00:00 on 8 March 2020.
