This travel advisory is in reference to Health Protection Agency announcement number: (IUL)23-L/23/2021/306
Following reports of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant spread in Southern African countries and pursuant to the Public Health Act 7/2012 sections 3, 12 and 34, the Health Protection Agency imposes the following public health measures effective 0000 hrs (MVT) 28th November 2021 until further notice.
- Persons (other than Maldivians, long-term visa holders and their dependents) travelling from South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Eswatini will be denied entry to the Maldives. This ban is also applicable on persons with travel history to these countries within the past 14 days or had a transit for more than 12 hours.
- Maldivians, long-term visa holders and their dependents with travel history to these countries (as stated in point 1) in the past 14 days including transit for more than 12 hours will be subjected to mandatory 14-day quarantine, on-arrival. Quarantined persons will be released upon receiving a negative result of a COVID-19 PCR test done at the end of quarantine.
- Persons currently travelling to or in the Maldives with travel histories to these aforementioned countries within the past 14 days must follow and adhere to the following measures:
3.1 Do a COVID-19 PCR test immediately by those in-country and those travelling to the Maldives upon arrival
3.2 Persons staying in the Maldives for more than 14 days or more, must do a COVID-19 PCR test after 14 days have passed since arrival
3.3 Persons staying in the Maldives for less than 14 days must do a COVID-19 PCR test before departure from the Maldives (if three days have passed since the test mandated under 3.1 above)
All relevant authorities and parties are hereby notified to comply with and implement the public health measures prescribed above. All parties are required to adhere to measures and advisories put in place by respective government institutions in fulfilling their responsibilities in line with this announcement.
